Physio Pelvica therapist with exam
(4 course modules and exam)

The course modules are a recognized training program concerned with functional deficits in the pelvis. As only therapists with all four course modules and the final exam are allowed to use the title „Physio Pelvica“, the participants have demonstrated an intensive engagement in this special topic, visible for patients and referring physicians. This training program is one of the possible programs that are listed as prerequisites necessary for the certification of pelvic centres.

1. Part Physio Pelvica training program
(basic course 1)
This course forms the basis of all the following course modules. The diploma for the permission to bear the title of physiotherapist is a prerequisite. After the course, participants have i.e. the ability to perform a specific examination of a patient. Participants have specific knowledge of the anatomy of pelvic organs and the pelvic muscles and their functional connections. This fosters their understanding for possible disruptions of pelvic structures and functions. Their ability to match possible disruptions to management strategies is enhanced.
2. Part Physio Pelvica training program (basic course 2 – vaginal/rectal examination)
Content of this course is the specific diagnostic process of the pelvic musculature via vaginal/rectal examination. The standardized documentation allows the integrationg of the findings of the diagnostic process in the therapeutic management. The physiotherapist is now able to supplement the therapeutic management with biofeedback, electrotherapy or balloon catheter.
3. Part Physio Pelvica training program
(Therapeutic course 1)
In this course module, the physiotherapist learns about possible changes after pregnancy and after the many different operations in the pelvic area (like removal of the uterus or the prostate, different revisional operations of the bladder and bowel). The physiotherapist knows the specific physiotherapy of pelvic dysfunctions and the „re-learning“ of pelvic muscle function in the first days and weeks after childbirth and operations and can adapt the therapeutic management according to the early phase of rehabilitation.
4. Part Physio Pelvica training program
(Therapeutic course 2)
This course details the anatomical and neurophysiological basics of the pelvic organs as well as the pathophysiology of the pelvic structures. Emphasis of the course is finding the cause of a dysfunction and how to manage it. There are many practical sessions throughout the course with different therapeutic techniques and approaches. The participant feels and practices the techniques and links them with case presentations.
Additional course: Manual mobilisation of the pelvic organs as well as the bony structures with urogenitorectal dysfunctions
Additional course: postnatal exercises
This course fosters the knowledge of physiotherapy after childbirth with vaginal birth or sectio. The participant learns how to adequately train the abdominal musculature, the pelvic musculature and how to deal with pregnancy-related changes. The knowledge how to support a mother with breastfeeding and activities of daily living is enhanced.
Additional course: The role of psychosomatic medicine in the therapy of pelvic dysfunctions of women
The awareness and the management of psychosomatic relationships in pelvic dysfunctions of women are enhanced related to the perspective of a physician specialized in psychosomatic medicine as well as the physiotherapeutic perspective. Participants learn about psychosomatic relationships and can integrate themselves a one part of therapeutic options for affected patients.
Additional course: Antenatal classes
The awareness and work with the body and breath, how to deal with pain as well as different positions of childbearing are part of this course in theory as well as in practical work. Physiotherapy in pregnancy can be a part of preparing and supporting women and couples concerning birth and becoming a family. Contents are the protection of pelvic muscle function, the management of pregnancy-related disorders, as well as the preparation for an individual role behaviour of a young family.
Additional course: Physiotherapy after breast operations
Physiotherapy is part of the psycho-onkologic rehabilitation. This course demonstrates modern operations of the breast as well as additional operations after breast removal. Participants learn how to prevent movement restrictions and protective postures, how to prevent and treat oedema, how to deal with the fatigue syndrome, as well as how to enhance psycho-social support and illness coping behaviour. This course is recognized for physiotherapists working in breast centers.
Additional course: Pelvic ultrasonography for physiotherrapists
The relevance of the sonography of the pelvic floor in the diagnostic of pelvic floor dysfunctions is increasing. Being able to see pelvic floor function can significantly enhance the therapeutic process. There are many things that can be quickly identified with ultrasound: whether the pelvic musculature contracts correctly, whether there is a change in coordination or whether the pelvic muscles can enhance the stability of the pelvis with strain. This has immediate effects concerning the treatment plan. But ultrasound can also be used as visual biofeedback in addition to the vaginal or rectal palpation of the pelvic floor. This enhances the effectiveness of physiotherapy. Content of the course are relating the anatomy of the pelvic floor to the image of the ultrasound, practising the use of ultrasound and documentation.
Additional course: Vibration in combination with physiotherapy for the treatment of dysfunctions of the pelvic floor
Content of this course is the combination of physiotherapy with the whole body vibration device Galileo®. The stimulus of vibration triggers the monosynaptic reflex response and induces an involuntary contraction of muscles. Participants learn how to specifically activate the pelvic floor and which treatment principles are important in pelvic floor dysfunction. Another content of the course is how to foster the cooperation between physiotherapists and physicians.
Additional training: Pelvic floor school prevention group Prevention course according to § 20 SGB V
After this course, the physiotherapist will be able to implement the functional basics from basic course I in a group program. Special knowledge in pedagogy, didactics and communication qualify them to train perception, body awareness and guidance for behavioral change. Evaluation and quality assurance in prevention and health promotion complement their knowledge.
Additional course: Specific course for the therapy of children
Participants of this course learn about the anatomy and physiology of the pelvis of children (muscles and organs) , about pathology and congenital malformations. The physiotherapeutic diagnostic process and the treatment goals form the foundation for a therapy suitable for children. The physiotherapeutic management is characterized by instructions of the function of the bladder and the bowel that are appropriate for children, specific aids for training the awareness and treatment options that are adapted to the age of the child.
